Budgets that can't lie to you
A new way to set spending limits per category — your progress is calculated fresh from your real transactions every time, never cached.
A lot of budgeting tools have the same quiet problem: you set a limit, the app shows you a number, and at some point that number stops matching what actually happened in your account. Maybe a transaction got missed, maybe the spend total only updates on a schedule — either way, you stop trusting it, and a budget you don't trust isn't really a budget.
Budgeting is now live on Comb, and we built it specifically to not have that problem.
Why we built it
Comb already sorts every transaction you import into a category — groceries, transport, eating out, and so on — to power the Weekly Story and anomaly flags. A budget is really just that same categorized spend, measured against a number you choose. So we didn't build a separate system to track what you're spending. There's nothing to keep in sync, because there's nothing stored twice — your budget progress is calculated fresh from your actual transactions every time you look at it.
- Set a monthly limit for any category — groceries, eating out, transport, whatever matters to you.
- See what you've actually spent this month in that category, computed live, not cached.
- Anything over its limit is flagged the same way Comb flags an anomaly, so it's easy to spot at a glance.
- It's free, like everything else on Comb outside the Wealth pillar — no limit on how many categories you budget.
If your budget number and your bank statement can ever disagree, you've built the wrong thing.
What this means for you
You'll find Budget in the sidebar. Pick a category, set a monthly limit, and Comb does the rest using statements you've already imported — no extra setup. This is a first version: things like rollover between months or custom budget periods aren't in there yet. We'd rather ship the core idea working correctly than add more before this part is right.
